Event: Breast Cancer Awareness Program

Date: 2.30 PM - 4:00PM

Location: St. Joseph's in College for Women, (A) Gnanapuram, Visakhapatnam

 

Resources person: Dr.Sheethal Madan, BHMS, Rashee Homoeo Clinic ,specialist in cancer Patients Treatment  since 2012  ,Advisor  in JCI Vizag Achievers,  Board member of The Ability People, a clinic for differently abled.

 

Organized by : Department of Biochemistry, St. Joseph’s College for Women (A) in association with  Y's men international, District -v Central India Region and swanthana seva samithi, vizag.

 

Overview

As part of October's Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an awareness program was organized at St. Joseph's College for Women (A). Gnanapuram, Visakhapatnam, aimed at educating students, faculty, about breast cancer. This initiative sought to empower women with knowledge and encourage proactive health measures.

 

Program Highlights: 

 Program President by  Dr P Mary Anupama Head, Department of Biochemistry, The session was led by Dr. Sheethal Madan, who provided an in-depth overview of breast cancer, covering early detection, self-examination techniques, risk factors, and treatment options. Dr. Madan stressed the importance of early diagnosis, which significantly increases the chances of successful treatment. Dr Mousami Shankar spoke to the students on healthy food intake.

On behalf of Y's men  District Governor Ysm .Rev.Devaprasad  introducing all the Y's men members to congregation. Y's men club of Nirmal Hruday president Mrs prathima Emmanuel Encourage words,   closing remarks  by Y's men club of Visakhapatnam  president  Dr.Emmunel  Sugynanam  and vote of  thanks Mr.Hashan Raja District secretary - District -v, Central India region, vizag.

Signs and symptoms to watch for

 

2. Importance of Early Detection: How early diagnosis can improve treatment outcomes.

Role of regular screenings and mammograms

 

3. Self-Examination Techniques: Demonstration of self-examination steps. Encouragement for monthly self-checks and awareness of changes

 

4. Risk Factors and Prevention: Common risk factors, including genetics and lifestyle. Tips for a healthier lifestyle to reduce risk.                                                                  

 

 5. Treatment Options

 

Overview of modern treatment methods and patient support

 

Audience(Students)Engagement

The program saw active participation from the attendees,  100+ students  who engaged in a Q&A session with Dr. Sheethal Madan, asking insightful questions about prevention and support for patients undergoing treatment. Educational pamphlets were also distributed, and attendees were encouraged to spread awareness within their families and communities.

 

Conclusion

The event concluded with a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Sheethal Madan for her informative and inspiring session. Attendees left with a greater understanding of breast cancer and the importance of early detection, emphasizing the value of self-care and regular health checks. The program was a significant step toward building a more informed community regarding women's health issues.

The Students took a pledge to create awareness on Breast cancer
